From Mechatronics Intern to Mechanical Engineering Undergrad: The Story of Jacob Warfield
Jacob Warfield, a Warren High School graduate, found an opportunity that would shape his future through an internship facilitated by the Appalachian Ohio Manufacturers’ Coalition. While completing his associate’s degree in Mechatronics and Robotics, Jacob interned at Micro Machine Works in Vincent, Ohio—an experience that brought classroom theory into real-world application
During his internship, Jacob embarked on a one-of-a-kind project commissioned by Harmar Masonic Lodge #390: replicating an ornate emblem for their ceremonial staff. Drawing on both his technical training and hands-on guidance from experienced mentors, Jacob said, “I had to use some skills that I got from school, some skills I learned here, and a lot of time”—plus the wisdom passed down from seasoned professionals
His dedication paid off—not only did Jacob complete the emblem, but he also earned a $4,000 scholarship awarded by the AOMC, recognizing his hard work and creativity. Jacob is continuing his academic journey at Ohio University, working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Jacob’s pathway—from student to skilled intern to college-bound engineer—exemplifies the mission of the Appalachian Ohio Manufacturers’ Coalition: cultivating the next generation of technical talent through meaningful, hands-on experiences.
