Ohio Lieutenant Governor launches WorkOhio tour in Marietta(WTAP)

MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - Ohio Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel kicked off a statewide tour Thursday afternoon, starting in Marietta to promote WorkOhio, a state program connecting job seekers with career counselors, training programs and jobs.

Tressel visited the Appalachian Ohio Manufacturers’ Coalition Training Center, where he participated in hands-on training demonstrations. He worked with technologies including a CNC milling machine and lathe and a laser cutter.

Tressel said the WorkOhio tour is intended to raise awareness about industries and opportunities throughout the state.

“We’re just trying to cross-pollinate, if you will, talk about all the good things that are going on,” Tressel said. “And really, by being here, we hope people understand we appreciate the work they’re doing because we need it. Ohio needs every single worker going to find that thing that excites them and then going, becoming a great part of our communities.”

The AOMC Training Center offers short-term credentialing for high-tech manufacturing careers. Tressel’s Marietta stop is the first of several planned visits across the state to highlight WorkOhio.
