Lt. Governor Tressel Kicks Off WorkOhio Job Connector Tour with Manufacturing Training in Marietta
(MARIETTA, Ohio)—Ohio Lt. Governor Jim Tressel visited the Appalachian Ohio Manufacturers’ Coalition (AOMC) Training Center in Marietta today to kick off his WorkOhio Job Connector Tour.
The tour highlights businesses and training providers WorkOhio can lead job seekers to as they look to take the next step in their careers.
“Whether it’s finding a new job or the chance to learn new skills, opportunities are everywhere in Ohio,” said Lt. Governor Tressel. “WorkOhio’s main mission is to make sure people looking for a better opportunity know where to start and have a real team behind them as they take the next step. Organizations like AOMC are vital to this mission because they understand the unique workforce needs in their communities and can open the right doors to help people reach their full potential.”
Lt. Governor Tressel used a fiber laser to create a custom WorkOhio metal plate during the tour.
WorkOhio launched earlier this year to connect Ohioans with in-demand jobs, training programs, and career resources through personalized support from teams of regional job experts. The program is coordinated through seven Regional Job Hubs across the state, which partner with a network of Community Connectors – trusted local organizations that are already working in Ohio’s workforce ecosystem and know their area’s top industries, employers, and workforce needs.
AOMC is a WorkOhio Community Connector serving the Southeast region of the state. Located in Marietta, AOMC provides short-term, credential-based training to help job seekers and career changers prepare for high-tech manufacturing careers, while also supporting regional manufacturers by connecting them with skilled, job-ready talent.
During his visit, Lt. Governor Tressel received hands-on training on advanced manufacturing equipment to demonstrate the type of experience job seekers and trainees can expect at the facility, if connected through WorkOhio.
The Lt. Governor used a fiber laser to create a custom WorkOhio metal plate, used a CNC mill to create a custom "Heart of it All" oscillating air engine, learned how to program a FANUC material-handling robot, and was victorious in a match of BattleBots.

“Hosting the Lt. Governor for his WorkOhio Job Connector Tour is an incredible opportunity to highlight the impact workforce development partnerships are having across our region,” said Dana Hermann, Executive Director of AOMC. “At the Appalachian Ohio Manufacturers’ Coalition, we are committed to creating pathways that connect individuals to meaningful careers in manufacturing while helping employers build a stronger, skilled workforce. We are honored to showcase the innovation, collaboration, and economic growth happening right here in Appalachian Ohio.”
Additional stops on Lt. Governor Tressel’s WorkOhio Job Connector Tour will be held in each of Ohio’s seven WorkOhio regions in the coming weeks.
