Battle Bots Event for Local Students

AOMC hosted Discover Battle Bots on January 23rd at the AOMC facility in Marietta. Teams from area high schools designed, built, and competed with their own one-pound battle bots.

Five area high schools participated in Discover Battle Bots. Teams were represented form Belpre, Fort Frye, Caldwell, Warren, and Wolf Creek. In addition, AOMC interns, Associate Technical Trainers, and their Technical Training Manager worked alongside Building Bridges to Careers (BB2C) to help coordinate and lead the event.

Hunter Barnes, an intern from Warren, who helped design the day’s activities, won the Battle at the culmination of the day! Warren Local successfully launched a Battle Bots Club last year, which helped build momentum and student interest leading into this event.

“Discover Battle Bots is a powerful example of students learning directly from industry-connected mentors while building real technical and problem-solving skills,” said Kristi Leonard-Webber with BB2C & AOMC. “Experiences like this help students see themselves in future careers and understand that high-tech opportunities exist right here in our region.”

Approximately 24 students and coaches were in attendance at the event, with other community members there to witness the fun. The event was an opportunity for highly trained interns to train others, from students in our schools to adults in the workforce.

AOMC will host an additional support day on February 3rd from 12:00 pm–2:00 pm for any students or coaches who would like a condensed version of the experience. Manuals and resources have been developed to help schools continue progressing with their robot design and team development.
